We are looking for partners to research the link between viral infections and neurodegenerative or cardiometabolic diseases

We are looking to partner with other institutions to jointly participate in the IHI funding opportunity (call 11) to better understand how viral infection can lead to the development of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease among others, and cardiometabolic diseases.
Our experience
- Experts in neurobiology and aging. In particular, we have performed several projects studying neurodegenerative diseases using NHP models, also in the context of COVID-19 (Nieuwland et al. Longitudinal positron emission tomography and postmortem analysis reveals widespread neuroinflammation in SARS-CoV-2 infected rhesus macaques. J Neuroinflammation 20, 179 (2023))
- Development of preclinical models of a variety of viral infections
- Analysis of virological and immunological parameters of viral pathogenesis
- Development of alternative in vitro models based on iPSCs and organoid technology
- Expertise in extracellular vesicles (EVs) as biomarkers and therapeutics
This funding call focuses on identifying direct cause between viral infections and development of NCDs, biomarker identification, preclinical model development and defining mechanisms of action.
If you and your network are interested in working on the relationship between a viral pathogen and the development of neurodegenerative diseases and/or cardiometabolic diseases, please contact us and we can discuss how we can collaborate!
