With great pleasure, confidence and pride we announce that BPRC has found a new director. Prof. dr. Merel Langelaar will start in her new position on 15 November 2024. The Supervisory Board, with the approval of our Works Council, chose Merel based on her qualities and experience in combination with her pleasant personality.
Currently, Merel is a professor and was also the Vice Dean of Education at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University. Additionally, she has worked for the NVWA (Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority), the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate, the Health Council of the Netherlands, and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
Good match
Merel is trained as a veterinarian and has a broad background in Veterinary Medicine with a focus on the welfare of laboratory animals. She has built a special career in which she has gained experience in various areas that fit well with the profile of BPRC. For example, she has extensive knowledge of zoonotic infections, managerial experience and wide network, also in the political field.
We are convinced that the leadership of BPRC is in good hands with Merel and that she will continue to build a beautiful and healthy future. Our current director Ronald Bontrop has started the transfer of tasks and responsibilities as of November 1. At the end of November, Ronald will begin to enjoy his retirement.
